Instruction Guidelines
Pattern #1
Lope on left lead to and past second marker.
- Stop and roll back to the right.
- Continue on right lead and lope small right circle around marker.
- Midway between markers change leads and break to extended jog.
- Complete tight half circle around the marker.
- Continue back to the marker.
- Stop and back.
- Hesitate to show completion of pattern and exit arena at a jog.
Pattern #2
- Lope on left lead to second marker.
- Stop and roll back to the right.
- Immediately lope off on right lead and lope a
- small circle around marker, continue to fourth marker.
- Stop and do 360-degree turn to the left.
- Lope around marker on left lead.
- When even with marker, break to extended trot.
- At marker, stop and back.
- Exit arena at a jog.
Pattern #3
Run with speed past end marker #2.
- Stop. Roll back to the right.
- Lope on left lead down and around marker #1.
- Proceed up to marker #3.
- Stop and turn left.
- Extended trot to marker #4.
- Stop and back.
- Hesitate to show completion of pattern.
- Exit the arena at a jog.
Pattern #4
- Extended trot past third marker.
- Stop. Do 1 1/4 turn to the left.
- Lope immediately off on left lead.
- Do small slow circle to left.
- Stop even with top of third marker.
- Do 180-degree right turn.
- Lope immediately off on right lead.
- Lope large fast circle to the right.
- When even at top of third marker, break to jog.
- Jog to middle marker.
- Stop and back.
- Exit the arena at a jog.
Pattern #5
Do extended jog along side of arena, then to center.
- Begin lope at center of arena and lope left circle on left lead.
- Change leads at center of arena and lope right circle on right lead.
- Change leads and continue loping around end of arena.
- Once on the straight, increase speed and continue around end of arena.
- Stop and back.

This is designed to evaluate the contestants ability to execute a set of maneuvers prescribed by the judge with precision and smoothness while exhibiting poise and confidence, and maintaining a balanced, functional and fundamentally correct body position.
