A Day Behind the Chutes
June 2nd – 4th, Santa Maria, CA
Miss Rodeo California, Inc is excited to extend the opportunity for queen contestants ages fourteen and older to attend our annual clinic held in Santa Maria, California. This weekend has been designated in honor of Miss Rodeo California’s ongoing commitment to growing the states rodeo ambassadors and professionals.
Over the course of the clinic, we will cover everything from speeches to interview, personality, wardrobe, knowledge and horsemanship. The clinic will be held at the Historic Santa Maria Inn and the Santa Maria Rodeo Grounds.
Each contestant will receive a flash drive of study material, as well as a notepad to take notes from our various speakers throughout the day. Please bring a laptop if you would like to view the material.
- Wardrobe expectations will be western professional, long sleeved shirt and jeans. You will need a cowboy hat for the Behind the Chutes portion at the rodeo grounds. We expect you to arrive presentable as you would for an appearance and ready to learn!
- Check in will be Friday early evening (Time TBD). We will begin with an orientation of our weekend together and start with an appearance presentation and demonstration. Friday evening for those who would like to join the MRC Board on the Midnight Ghost Hunt are welcome to do so!
- Saturday will begin at the Santa Maria Rodeo Grounds with live rodeo event demonstrations brought to you by the Cal Poly Rodeo Team, a tour behind the chutes from Ben Londo and Reno Rosser, and a chance to meet with some of the most respected people in rodeo for a question and answer session. Lunch will be provided by the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo.
- Saturday evening, each of the clinic participants are welcomed to attend a dinner sponsored by the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo in addition to receiving a complementary ticket to the rodeo for that night. Chaperones will be responsible for their own rodeo ticket.
- Sunday will be at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge, there we will have clinicians focus on all things pageant and have a time for round table discussion. Breakfast and lunch will be sponsored by the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo.
